Iowa Whitetails Forever

HSB 645 and the road ahead »

IWF - FEB 23, 2012 (01:04:18 AM)

We have an issue with a small, but very high impact section of HSB 645. Specifically (Division 4, Section 14) that sets to require the sale of public lands to fund REAP. We are providing great detail about these events and our recommended course of action via our Twitter feed. Haven't joined us on Twitter yet? Now is your chance:

https://twitter.com/#!/IowaWTF

Our plan is to move toward using Twitter as a primary source of relaying information. We will also be sending out an official Call To Action on this item in the hours ahead due to it's importance. Stay tuned and please be ready to take action. This is not one we can allow to pass without a fight.

We're back »

IWF - JAN 29, 2012 (03:45:32 PM)

Although we experienced an unusually quite 2001 legislative session, we are not hopeful of a repeat. We are currently ramping up for 2012. We will be highly active on Twitter this year so if you have not yet joined our Twitter feed, please do so here https://twitter.com/#!/IowaWTF. Also, if you are not yet an IWF member, please join us today! IWF members are kept up to date on the most pressing legislation that may affect the heritage of hunting in Iowa. There is no cost or obligation to join.

Spread the word that we are returning with an increased enthusiasm and presence and we welcome anyone who is interested in maintaining Iowa's hunting and outdoor resources.

SF 219 and HF 327 »

IWF - FEB 21, 2011 (07:57:00 PM)

Call to Action SF 219 came and went with the Senate Natural Resource Committee not allowing it to move forward.  Indications are that the House Natural Resource Committee may be more inclined to allow its House companion bill HF 327 out of committee and to the full House for debate.

One would think that good sense would rule and the continued nonsense proposals would eventually dry up.  But as long as there are agendas that come from a narrow focus we'll likely have to continue the fight.  It is important that as we deal with legislative issues related to non-resident hunting, we remember what the issues are.   Non-resident hunters largely support Iowa's sytem and the great hunting opportunities they have when they do draw an Iowa tag.  Non-resident hunters are not the issue and never have been. As long as our efforts remain on the issues our integrity in the process remains true.

H-8384 »

IWF - MAR 10, 2010 (09:23:17 PM)

Amendment H-8384 has been filed onto HF 2481, a bill containing several provisions for the DNR. This amendment was offered by Representative Pettengill from House District 39 comprising all of Benton and a small part of Iowa County. The amendment seeks to raise the current limit of 6,000 non-resident either sex tags to 12,000 non-resident either sex tags.

IWF recommends contacting your district representative and encourage them to vote NO on amendment H-8384 when HF 2481 comes to the house floor for debate. If you are unsure of who to contact, click HERE to find your State Representative.

If you choose to contact Representative Pettengill, please remember to be respectful.

A Call To Action has been issued which contains more detailed information. If you are not yet a member of IWF, please visit our registration page today and become an instrumental voice in upholding the tradition of deer hunting in Iowa.

Amendment S-5111 »

IWF - FEB 23, 2010 (11:21:35 AM)

The first amendment of concern was offered yesterday, February 22 as an addition to SF 2243. Amendment S-5111 provided for a study to determine the economic impact of increasing the number of antlered and antlerless licenses available for sale to nonresidents who own Iowa farmland.

The amendment was found not germane to the bill and was ruled out of order. The bill passed without the inclusion of the amendment.
